The start of the New Year comes with the start of endless resolutions! When it comes to saving money and budgeting your expenses, making a resolution is easy—actually sticking to it is when the hard part begins. That’s why it is so important to set realistic and achievable goals for yourself to make sure you stay on track this year and save up as much cash as possible. Here at Caddle we have come up with some of our own saving resolutions for 2018… check them out below!
Create a Savings Plan
New Year, new savings plan! Start off slow this year and work your way up to save as much cash as you can. The easiest way to do this is to make a realistic savings plan you can actually follow. At Caddle we recommend saving a dollar a day based on the day of the month. For example, on January 1st put away $1. On January 2nd put away $2. On January 3rd put away $3 and so on. At the start of each new month start again and work your way through the weeks to hopefully end up with over a couple thousand dollars of saved money to spend when the holiday season rolls around again!
Pay Off Your Debt
We all know the holiday season can put our budgets way off track and actually slide us into debt. If you’re feeling overwhelmed the best way to tackle your expenses is to start with the bill which racks the highest interest. If you’re like majority of the public and have a variety of different credit cards, try combining your debt into one—interest charges on credit cards are usually the biggest culprits when it comes to trying to save money. If you really want to cut down your interest charges your best bet is to eliminate separate bills and consolidate them into one (choose the card with the lowest interest rate)
Purchase What You Need, Not What You Want
If you’re really serious about sticking to a budget resolution for the New Year, it is time to buckle down on your spending expenses. Think critically before you make purchases… especially the smaller ones. A couple bucks here and there is the type of spending that puts you behind in your budget and gets you off track to meeting your resolutions! Try only making purchases for items you actually need and avoid impulse expenses. Eating out is one of the biggest challenges most people face when wanting to save some cash. Buying groceries and cooking at home is not only the healthier alternative, it also saves you loads of money in the long run. Shopping for personal items like clothes, shoes and jewellery is another area where expenses can get out of hand. Take a second look at your closet and find some new ways to wear what you already have!
